Should I use AI when writing?
Whan I started this blog, I wrote an "AI disclaimer"
(also called an "/ai page"). That document states that I do
use AI, but for proofreading, not to generate ideas or research topics.
That last part is 100% me. AI helps me here because English is not my
native language, and I'm afraid of writing poor or even bad English.
In other words: I don't let the AI speak for me.
However, I'm concerned about AI slop in general. Of course I want this blog to be useful and informative, and I don't want it to be "sloppy" and associated with AI-generated low quality.
Here are the two approaches I can choose from:
- Writing "naturally" (i.e., non-AI-assisted) and having some English sentences that sound weird.
- Using AI to polish the text and having a technically superior quality because it's "good" standard English.
Should I use AI and make sure the posts are "well-written", or should I try not using AI at the cost of having some weird sentences from time to time? After all, maybe it'd be perceived as charming instead of sloppy and low-quality?
I didn't have this article proofread by the AI. I resisted the urge to ask even for a tiny review. So you can have an idea of how well or bad I write "naturally".
Another approach I may consider: ditching the current AI-proofreader to get an AI-teacher instaed. Asking the AI to point out mistakes and weird sentences, letting it explain why it's wrong or odd, and giving me hints to fix them myself.
I may try that from now on.
